What character do you find most interesting in the story? Why? Point to specific parts of the text to discuss this.

Ashwin Dev Dr. Cobos ELA 11 December 2017 What character do you find most interesting in the story? Why? Point to specific parts of the text to discuss this. [The Misfit was the most interesting character in the story because of the way that he was introduced and because of how the things he did played out in the story.] The way that The Misfit was thought of changes throughout the story multiple times. At the beginning, the grandmother introduces The Misfit into the story to her son, Bailey, as a person that has clearly done a large number of bad things. On the first page, she said "I wouldn't take my children in any direction to a criminal like that." Later on, in pages 14 to 22, The Misfit managed to change what the grandmother thought of him as a person once she had actually met him, by making her think that he was put in jail for no reason. Page 22 is the turning point at which The Misfit changes his own image again, except this time, the grandmother wouldn...

Blog #4: Reflect on the Process of the OHP - Ashwin

Ashwin Dev Dr. Cobos ELA 27 October 2017 Having worked on a major project in small groups, what have you learned to take with you to future small-group projects?        The most important thing I learned from this project is that communication outside of school is a very important part of the project, using email can be helpful especially if you don't have open work time on a certain day. Being aware of future assignments that are part of the project can also be really helpful, it's able to help with timeliness as well as having more time to improve and revise over the work. The last thing I learned from this project was to try as hard as you can to get your group members to do an equal amount of work, I didn't have to do this at all with my group but I can imagine what it would be like if group members didn't do an equal amount of work.        In future projects, I'll have to improve what I did in this one, I worked well with my...

Blog #3: Persepolis - Ashwin

Ashwin Dev Dr. Cobos ELA 27 October 2017 In what ways did Marjane find it difficult to fit back into Iranian society?  It seemed like Marjane wasn't used to all of the change in the people and places that were in Iran. You can tell that she tried really hard to forget about the bad things in her past, an example would be on page 245, once she puts on the veil she thinks about all of her individual and social liberty that she had in Austria. Putting on that veil had already reminded her of things she didn't want in life (wearing a veil, not being able to wear the clothes she wants, not being able to have parties, etc.) and that was only one of the things. From the point of Marjane coming back to Iran, it seemed like she was expecting everybody to be the same or similar to how they used to be. Her parents and grandmother aside, most times that she had met up with her past friends and people that she knew, it didn't look like she was too happy with the way that some of t...

Weekly Journal/Blog Assignment 9/29/17

Ashwin Dev Dr. Cobos ELA 27 September 2017 Why did Marjane's parents decide to send her to Europe? Do you think this was the right decision? Why or why not? (Harrison, Kim. "ELA 2015-2016") Sending Marjane to Europe was the right decision, in my opinion. The decision only had benefits to Marjane and not her parents or the rest of her family members but I'm sure that's what her parents were meaning to do. As time passed, Marjane started realizing more and more flaws and different problems in the ways that she was living, as well as situations that would put her in danger,  began to happen in a way that would definitely affect her. An example of this type of problem was on page 132 when the guardians of the revolution find her with clothing that was based on American culture. Marjane would most likely be able to wear that type of clothing in Europe whenever she wanted to. The last reason for moving to Europe being a good decision has to do with what happen...
